Portfolio Total (Stock + Crypto + Gold) – $311,255.56. Up 7.25% from last month’s value ($290,200.14).
Net worth – $552,944.47
This month’s savings rate is x%. It doesn’t look good at all, as many unexpected things happened, and I had to spend quite a bit more:
- PC broken; needs to replace the SSD and emergency fee – $550.00
- Sent a bit more money back to my parents – $300.00
- Electricity bill – $315.02
- Everyday Extra Renewal – $70.00
- Wisdom Teeth Removal Consultation – $119.68
Furthermore, Pokemon has a new 30th anniversary set upcoming in September, and I overspent quite a bit to secure the stock. Lots of things to cover for this month, but all of the expenses above, the most well-spent is the one fixing my broken PC. My PC is the most important thing out of my valuable assets, and it has been making me tons of money, so getting it fixed immediately was the priority. I was glad there was a service I could call at 8 p.m., and I got it fixed the next day. However, I think it’s time for me to start saving for my next PC and use this PC as a backup or sell it.
The wisdom teeth removal consultation was also kind of important. I don’t feel pain or anything atm, but at this rate, those wisdom teeth could be a nuisance. The thing that I was worried about was the cost, and surprisingly it was reasonably priced. $1,000 to remove one wisdom tooth, so roughly $4,000 to $5,000 in total. I would have thought it would cost at least $7,000 at the minimum. I think this is fine, and I could just get them removed here in Australia. I am saving for the surgery, but not this year, maybe early next year or so.
I am also planning to go back to my country next year. Gonna need to save a lot more money now since it’s gonna be extremely expensive. Flight tickets, gifts, trips, and many other things will add up quickly. The trip I did 2 years ago cost me roughly $10,000 or so. Definitely need to save that much till the end of this year so I can safely prepare for anything.
Another note for myself – I still haven’t done my tax, and I’ve got so many bills coming soon – private health insurance, offset account annual payment,… Hopefully I will get quite a bit of tax back so I can spend on these.
Markets have been experiencing a meltdown recently, and luckily enough, my dividend is also reinvested. I took the chance to add a bit more to my Vanguard account. This month’s contribution looks like this:
- $400 to Raiz + micro-investing.
- $400 to Bitcoin
- 1 extra payment to my offset account, totalling $1,500.00.
I contributed a total of $2,300.00 across Raiz, Bitcoin, and the offset account. I was going to contribute to VDHG, but there are lots of expenses this month, so I have to reserve more cash. Even though I don’t accumulate anything this month, I think the reinvestment next quarter can bring the total of shares to 2,000 VDHG shares, so it should be all right.
Note: Please remember that this number is still an estimate only, as my crypto portfolio consists of various assets, including NFTs, staking, and DeFi. I need to utilise other tools to track and maintain the value of my investments and accurately determine the value of my portfolio. NFTs are hard to estimate because of price fluctuations in the crypto market. However, estimation is still good enough in this case
Events & Porfolio Analysis
General news
- On 01/08/2026, Three Federal Reserve officials who dissented from this week’s decision to hold interest rates steady said they support raising rates now to prevent inflation from becoming more entrenched. Beth Hammack and Neel Kashkari argued that gradual rate hikes today could avoid more aggressive tightening later, while Lorie Logan warned current policy is not restrictive enough to curb inflation. Although the Fed kept rates unchanged, the dissent highlights growing concern that persistent inflation—driven by energy costs, tariffs, and strong demand—may require tighter monetary policy in the coming months.
- On 04/08/2026, Oil prices fell sharply after President Donald Trump said he canceled a planned military strike on Iran, citing signs of a potential diplomatic breakthrough. WTI crude dropped about 5% to $80.34 per barrel, while Brent crude fell 4.7% to $83.77. Trump said the U.S. and Iran were discussing a deal that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran’s nuclear program, although Tehran denied direct talks with Washington, saying its discussions were limited to shipping routes with Oman.
- On 05/08/2026, The U.S. military said the southern shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz remains open and has safely supported the passage of more than 1,000 commercial vessels, despite tensions with Iran. Oil prices fell after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. is close to an agreement with Iran to reopen the strait, with reports indicating Oman and Pakistan are mediating indirect negotiations. Meanwhile, U.S. officials rejected reports of missile shortages, insisting the military has sufficient munitions and is rapidly expanding production.
- On 06/08/2026, The Trump administration said it has refunded about $100 billion—roughly 60% of the $166 billion collected under tariffs imposed through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled those tariffs were unlawful. The refunds follow a court order requiring repayment to importers, although the administration is simultaneously pursuing new tariffs under different legal authorities. More than 252,000 refund claims covering 25 million import entries have been processed so far, with additional refunds still pending.
- Iran denied holding direct negotiations with the U.S., saying discussions over the Strait of Hormuz are taking place with Oman, despite President Donald Trump signaling that a deal was imminent. Iranian officials said a joint Iran-Oman statement on reopening the strait is in its final drafting stage, while U.S. officials remain optimistic about an agreement. Meanwhile, the U.S. military said the southern shipping route through Hormuz remains open, even as reports emerged of explosions near tankers off Yemen and Oman, highlighting ongoing regional tensions.
- On 08/08/2026, The U.S. labor market weakened sharply in July, with nonfarm payrolls falling 23,000 versus expectations for an 83,000 gain, while earlier months were also revised lower. The unemployment rate edged down to 4.1%, but mainly because labor force participation fell to 61.4%, its lowest in more than five years. Wage growth also slowed, with annual earnings growth easing to 3.2%. The weak report reduced expectations for a September Fed rate hike, sending Treasury yields lower and stock futures higher as investors reassessed the balance between inflation and growing labor-market risks.
- Iran has demanded major concessions from the U.S. before reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including an end to the naval blockade and sanctions, withdrawal of U.S. forces, war reparations and the release of frozen Iranian assets. Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are negotiating transit routes, but no broader U.S.-Iran deal has been reached. Shipping through the strait remains disrupted after an ADNOC-linked tanker was targeted, while Iran’s draft plan could restrict access for U.S. and Israeli vessels. Oil prices rose about 1% Friday, although they still fell more than 7% for the week, as uncertainty over the strait continues to threaten global energy supplies.
- On 10/08/2026, U.S. Treasury yields edged lower Monday as investors focused on upcoming economic data, particularly July’s core inflation report. A weaker-than-expected July jobs report reduced expectations for a near-term Fed rate hike, with markets now pricing a 44% chance of a September hike, down from 67% a week earlier. Investors will closely watch Wednesday’s core CPI, followed by producer prices and jobless claims Thursday and retail sales and consumer sentiment Friday, which could influence the Fed’s next rate decision.
- On 11/08/2026, President Donald Trump said the U.S. Navy has cleared mines from the Strait of Hormuz and now has full control of the waterway, but Iran says it will not reopen the strait unless Washington lifts its naval blockade and sanctions, withdraws U.S. forces, releases frozen assets and agrees to reparations. Trump has instead suggested Iran should compensate the U.S. for deaths linked to past attacks, adding another obstacle to negotiations. The standoff continues to disrupt tanker traffic and keep energy markets on edge, with Brent and WTI crude both rising about 5% Monday to roughly $87.72 and $82.13 a barrel, respectively.
- The Reserve Bank of Australia has kept the cash rate unchanged at 4.35% in a unanimous decision, despite underlying inflation remaining elevated. New forecasts show inflation is expected to follow a lower and steadier path than previously projected, reaching the 2.5% midpoint of the RBA’s target by early 2028. The outlook suggests the RBA may now be finished with rate hikes, although the next decision will depend on inflation and economic data, with the next meeting scheduled for late September.
- KPMG has withdrawn a report after the Financial Times found multiple false or misleading claims about AI use at UBS, NHS Greater Manchester, Swiss Federal Railways and Transport for London. Research group GPTZero identified passages that appeared to be AI hallucinations, with several organizations confirming the claims were inaccurate. KPMG said it is reviewing how the report was produced, highlighting growing concerns over the use of generative AI in professional research and consulting.
- On 13/08/2026, U.S. inflation remained moderate in July, with headline CPI rising 0.1% month over month and 3.4% annually, while core CPI increased 0.2% and 2.5% annually. The data matched expectations and, alongside weak July jobs figures, reduced pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise rates in September, with markets pricing only a 42% chance of a hike. Energy prices continued to fall, although shelter and some service costs remained elevated, leaving inflation above the Fed’s 2% target.
- On 14/08/2026, U.S. producer prices were flat in July, coming in below expectations and adding to signs that inflationary pressures are easing. The headline PPI was unchanged month over month, while core PPI rose 0.2%, both weaker than forecasts. Falling energy, gasoline and food prices helped offset higher services costs. The report, following a softer-than-expected CPI reading, further reduced expectations for a September Fed rate hike, while initial jobless claims also rose to 209,000, pointing to some weakening in the labor market.
- On 15/08/2026, Rep. Mike Levin has raised concerns about reported poor conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, citing moldy showers, broken toilets, limited hot water and fresh food, supply shortages, and excessive workloads causing fatigue among sailors and Marines. U.S. Central Command denied reports of a deadly fight aboard the carrier, saying the claims were false and that no service members had died.
- On 18/08/2026, President Donald Trump threatened military action against Oman as the 60-day U.S.-Iran ceasefire expired without a formal deal or direct negotiations. Trump said he was not rushing to reach an agreement, while Iran continued to deny talks with Washington and instead negotiated with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping through the key oil route has nearly halted, with only three vessels passing on Sunday compared with about 130 per day before the war.
- On 21/08/2026, JPMorgan warned that the U.S. Treasury’s increased bond buybacks may provide only temporary relief from rising debt pressures. With governments and companies issuing record amounts of debt while some traditional buyers reduce their Treasury holdings, higher yields may be needed to attract investors. The growing appeal of bonds could also put pressure on stock valuations, particularly as AI-driven borrowing and infrastructure spending increase competition for capital.
- U.S. government debt has surpassed $40 trillion, marking another major milestone as persistent budget deficits continue to drive borrowing higher. The debt has more than doubled from $19.4 trillion a decade ago, while rising Treasury yields and increased corporate borrowing are adding to pressure on government finances. Interest payments have also climbed to nearly $1.2 trillion this year, making debt servicing one of the largest federal expenses.
- On 26/08/2026, Australian inflation came in hotter than expected in July, increasing concerns that the RBA may need to raise interest rates again. Monthly CPI rose 1%, driven by a 7.5% jump in fuel prices, while trimmed mean inflation reached 3.6% annually, above forecasts. Markets lifted the chance of a September rate hike to 38%, while ANZ now expects a 25-basis-point hike in November.
- Iran and Oman are moving toward an agreement to improve shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, including a temporary navigation corridor and joint mine-clearing efforts. The prospect of safer transit has pushed oil prices lower, while technical talks continue on a permanent shipping route and future management of the waterway. Meanwhile, the U.S. is increasing economic pressure on Iran, though it has so far avoided broad secondary sanctions that could trigger retaliation from major trading partners such as China.
- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s efforts to lower U.S. bond yields have drawn increasing skepticism from Wall Street, with critics arguing that government intervention cannot overcome the country’s growing debt and deficits. While Treasury’s expanded bond buybacks have pushed long-term yields lower, investors warn the strategy could distort markets and delay necessary fiscal reforms. Stanley Druckenmiller has urged Treasury to let bond markets determine fair yields, arguing that lasting relief requires reducing the federal deficit rather than suppressing borrowing costs.
- On 27/08/2026, U.S. inflation rose slightly in July, with the Fed’s preferred PCE price index increasing 0.2% monthly and 3.7% annually, both slightly above expectations. Core PCE matched forecasts at 3.3% annually, while consumer income and spending also grew more than expected. The data leaves the Fed cautious about cutting or raising rates, with markets assigning only about a one-in-three chance of a September move as officials assess persistent inflation and rising Treasury yields.
- On 30/08/2026, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh signaled that interest rates could rise if inflation fails to cool further, saying recent improvements have not yet shown a meaningful decline in underlying price pressures. His Jackson Hole remarks pushed markets to raise the odds of a September rate hike to 55.7%, while Treasury yields jumped, although Warsh avoided giving clear guidance on the Fed’s next move.
- Iran’s trade and oil exports have plunged under intensified U.S. sanctions and the naval blockade, with President Masoud Pezeshkian saying overall trade has fallen 25%–35%. Iranian crude loadings reportedly dropped more than 80% year over year in August, as Washington seeks to pressure Tehran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz and reaching a deal. Tehran, however, says it has sufficient oil reserves and alternative channels to maintain revenue despite the blockade.
Crypto news
- On 01/08/2026, New York has sued prediction market platform Kalshi, alleging it operates an unlicensed gambling business by offering contracts on sports, elections, and other events. The state is seeking to shut down Kalshi’s operations, recover alleged illegal profits, and impose financial penalties. Kalshi argues it is a federally regulated exchange under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which has backed the company by asserting that federal law—not state gambling laws—governs prediction markets. The case highlights the ongoing legal battle over whether prediction markets should be regulated as financial products or gambling services.
- On 04/08/2026, Security experts say the Coldcard seed-generation flaw exposes a major weakness in hardware wallet security testing, after a bug that went undetected for five years reportedly contributed to the theft of nearly $90 million in Bitcoin. The issue occurred because affected devices used a weaker random number generator instead of the intended cryptographically secure source, despite the secure code being present. Kraken CSO Nick Percoco called for independent end-to-end verification of hardware wallet randomness, arguing the crypto industry should adopt security standards similar to those used for payment systems and government cryptographic devices.
- The Japanese yen rebounded about 5% after coordinated intervention by Japan and the U.S., strengthening from around 163 to 157 per dollar, but analysts doubt the gains will last. They argue the Bank of Japan’s gradual rate hikes and still-negative real interest rates provide little fundamental support for the yen, leaving intervention as its main driver. Reports that the U.S. Treasury may have sold euros instead of dollars to support the yen also raised questions about the effectiveness of the intervention, while uncertainty over potential Federal Reserve rate hikes continues to support the U.S. dollar.
- On 06/08/2026, US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $381.5 million in net inflows over two days as the ongoing Coldcard hardware wallet hack heightened concerns about self-custody security. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led the inflows, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC, while Galaxy Research estimates the incident may have affected up to 7,300 addresses and caused around $130 million in suspected Bitcoin losses. The breach has renewed debate over whether regulated ETFs, which use institutional custodians, offer a safer alternative to self-custody for many investors.
- On 08/08/2026, Senate Republicans are expected to delay a vote on the CLARITY Act until September after failing to secure enough Democratic support before the August recess. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the bill will be prioritized when lawmakers return, but Republicans may struggle to reach the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster. The legislation would establish a federal framework for digital assets and clarify oversight between the SEC and CFTC, while ongoing negotiations focus on gaining Democratic backing.
- BIP-110 entered its mandatory-signaling phase at Bitcoin block 961,632, but had only 2.53% miner support, far below the 55% threshold needed for early activation. Nodes enforcing the proposal began rejecting non-signaling blocks, creating a minority chain that quickly fell behind the main network. BIP-110 proposes temporary limits on Bitcoin data storage, including restrictions on OP_RETURN, output scripts and Taproot features, aiming to reduce non-monetary data usage. However, limited miner support raises the risk of a chain split and renewed debate over Bitcoin’s block-space policies.
- On 10/08/2026, Bitcoin’s BIP-110 enforcing branch stalled at block 961,633 after producing just two blocks, while the main chain advanced to 961,721, creating an 88-block gap. The split began after BIP-110 entered mandatory signaling with only 2.53% miner support, far below the required threshold. Without significantly more mining power, the enforcing branch is unlikely to catch up before the signaling period ends at block 963,647. Prominent Bitcoin figures including Michael Saylor and Adam Back have opposed the proposal, warning that it could undermine Bitcoin’s consensus and credibility.
- On 14/08/2026, Tether has received its first full independent audit from KPMG US, which issued an unqualified opinion on its 2025 financial statements, indicating they fairly represent the company’s financial position under U.S. accounting standards. However, Tether has not publicly released the audit. The move marks a significant shift from its previous reliance on quarterly reserve attestations and could help address investor concerns that had affected its planned $20 billion fundraising at a $500 billion valuation.
- On 19/08/2026, The SEC has proposed new rules to create a regulatory framework for certain crypto assets after Congress failed to advance the CLARITY Act before its August recess. The proposal would allow qualifying crypto issuers to raise limited amounts of capital while requiring financial disclosures and ongoing reporting, along with a safe harbor for some tokens. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said legislation is still needed, while the Senate is expected to revisit the CLARITY Act when it returns in September.
- On 21/08/2026, Crypto short liquidations reached $3.1 billion over Aug. 19–20, marking the largest single-day short squeeze on record. Bitcoin accounted for about $1.65 billion of the losses as its price climbed to nearly $72,000 following a U.S. Treasury debt-buyback announcement. The surge forced heavily shorted traders to close positions, while Bitcoin holders also began taking profits as prices returned toward their cost basis.
- President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass a “fair” version of the CLARITY Act, saying clear crypto regulations are needed to keep the U.S. ahead of China. The bill remains stalled in the Senate over concerns including stablecoin rewards, tokenized equities and potential conflicts of interest. Meanwhile, the SEC and CFTC are moving ahead with their own crypto regulatory initiatives while Congress remains on recess.
- On 26/08/2026, Bitcoin continued its rally, rising to above $81,000 as renewed spot ETF inflows and stronger risk appetite supported demand. The cryptocurrency has gained more than 20% in three days, helped by over $4 billion in short liquidations and a U.S. Treasury move to increase long-term bond purchases. Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $1.92 billion last week, suggesting institutional demand is returning and potentially making the rally more sustainable.
- On 27/08/2026, Thirty-nine U.S. state banking associations have launched the BankChain Alliance to develop an industry-owned blockchain network, targeting a 2027 rollout. The network aims to support tokenized deposits, stablecoins, smart payments and automated settlements while connecting with other blockchains. The initiative reflects a broader push by U.S. banks to build shared blockchain infrastructure for faster, programmable payments within the regulated banking system.
- StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy has demonstrated an experimental quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction on the mainnet, with the transaction confirmed in block 964,199. The Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB) method uses hash-based signatures and transaction-specific authorization to protect against potential quantum attacks without requiring a protocol upgrade. However, the approach is computationally expensive and currently relies on direct miner submission because Bitcoin Core does not normally relay these transactions.
I will keep it short this time to summarise important events happening this month, as I am still on a short holiday trip to attend my friend’s birthday party:
- Inflation is high in Australia, and the interest rate stays the same this month. Not good or bad news, but inflation is still a problem.
- Petrol price goes up, and the whole thing with Hormuz is still under discussion.
- Bitcoin has gone up to $80,000 in the last couple of weeks because the US Treasury wanted to increase long-term bond purchases.
A simple breakdown of changes for this month’s portfolio:
- Raiz – 62.36% to 62.60% (0.24%).
- VDHG – 11.11% to 11.27% (0.16%).
- IVV – 15.55% to 15.50% (0.05%).
- SYI – 9.82% to 9.82% (0.00%).
- VISM – 8.63% to 8.61% (0.02%).
- A200 – 8.63% to 8.80% (0.17%).
- Crypto – 15.87% to 39.41% (23.54%).
- Bitcoin bounced back strongly – an incredible move from Bitcoin, which made the return jump by 23.54%. This makes me wonder if people can tolerate this kind of movement in their portfolio. Even I could not predict what would happen next with Bitcoin.
- Mixed returns among ETFs – Raiz, VDHG and A200 have quite a return this month, while IVV, VISM and SYI saw no to negative returns. However, one thing is for sure that the ETFs with the Australian market in them perform well.
- Overall – good performance this month due to the crypto market recovering significantly since last month.
Here’s the current breakdown of the interest charged, with the offset amount:
- Current repayment – $3,022.86
- Interest charged – $2,347.03
- Offset benefit – $98.22
- Remaining balance – $498,311.09

What I have learnt and experienced
Quite a bit of learning this month in multiple areas of my life.
I think the first lesson was finding a reliable service to fix a computer quick and efficiently. The incident with my PC this month has made me panic a bit about what to do next, and luckily there’s a decent store that would work overnight to fix the computer. I would use that service again, as the guy who fixed my PC was kind enough to come and collect it fixed it overnight.
Another lesson is that editing clips is hard. I have been trying to improve my video quality, and I must say, it doesn’t matter how good you are with the video; what matters is the YouTube algorithm. However, improving your video quality also helps, as it would attract an audience, which translates to a better conversion rate for your video. I have started looking at some tutorials to reuse some of the clip transitions or how to improve effects. Certainly, these tricks can help me get better views in the future.
